Tired of Carrying Everything Alone? How to Fully Surrender to God

Have you ever felt emotionally exhausted from trying to hold everything together?

Maybe you’ve been carrying the weight of your family, finances, future, relationships, or personal struggles all on your own. You pray, but deep down, you still try to control every outcome because you’re afraid of what might happen if you let go.

I understand that feeling more than I’d like to admit.

There were seasons in my life when I constantly overthought everything. I wanted answers immediately. I wanted healing quickly. I wanted situations fixed in my timing. I kept carrying burdens God never asked me to carry alone.

But eventually, exhaustion taught me something powerful:

God never asked us to be our own savior.

He simply asked us to come to Him.

Jesus Never Meant for You to Carry Everything Alone

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30, NKJV

Jesus knew we would grow weary.
He knew life would sometimes feel overwhelming.
He knew we would try to carry burdens too heavy for our hearts.

Yet His invitation remains simple:

Come to Me.

Not “fix yourself first.”
Not “have stronger faith first.”
Not “carry it alone until you break.”

Just come.

Surrendering to God does not mean giving up. It means finally allowing God to take the place He always deserved in our lives.

Why We Struggle to Surrender

Many of us struggle with surrender because control feels safer.

We think:

  • “If I keep worrying, maybe I can prevent pain.”

  • “If I work harder, maybe everything will finally fall into place.”

  • “If I stay in control, I won’t get hurt.”

But the truth is, control often creates more stress, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion.

Trying to carry tomorrow’s burdens with today’s strength will always leave us drained. God did not create us to live constantly overwhelmed. He created us to walk closely with Him.

3 Simple Ways to Fully Surrender to God

1. Release Control to God Daily

Surrender is not usually a one-time decision. It’s a daily choice.

Every day we wake up with new worries, fears, and pressures. But instead of carrying them alone, we can intentionally place them into God’s hands.

God's word says we have to cast all our worries and cares to Him.

"Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." 1 Peter 5:7, NKJV

Sometimes surrender sounds like:

  • “God, I don’t have all the answers.”

  • “Lord, I cannot control this situation.”

  • “Father, I trust You even when I don’t understand.”

You do not need to have everything figured out before coming to God.

He already knows what’s weighing on your heart.

2. Trust God’s Plan Even When You Don’t Understand It

One of the hardest parts of faith is trusting God when life does not make sense.

Waiting seasons can feel confusing. Closed doors can feel painful. Delayed prayers can make us wonder if God hears us at all.

But God sees the full picture that we cannot see.

Even when you feel stuck, God is still working behind the scenes.
Even when life feels uncertain, His plans remain steady.

Trusting God means believing that His wisdom is greater than our understanding.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;" Proverbs 3:5, NKJV

Sometimes surrender means saying:

“God, I may not understand this season, but I trust that You are still good.”

3. Rest in God’s Presence Instead of Living in Constant Stress

Many people are physically tired, but even more are spiritually exhausted.

God never intended us to live in nonstop worry and pressure.

Real rest is found in His presence.

Spend quiet moments with Him:

  • Pray honestly

  • Read Scripture slowly

  • Journal your thoughts

  • Sit quietly in God’s presence without rushing

You do not always need to strive.

Sometimes you simply need to be still long enough to remember that God is already holding what you’re worried about

"Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!" Psalm 46:10, NKJV

A Simple Prayer of Surrender

Heavenly Father,
I am tired of carrying burdens You never asked me to carry alone. Today, I surrender my worries, fears, stress, and need for control into Your hands. Teach me to trust You fully, even when life feels uncertain. Help me rest in Your presence and remember that You are already working things out for my good. Give me peace for today and strength for this season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You Don’t Have to Carry This Alone

Friend, surrender is not weakness.

It is trusting the strength of God more than your own.

You do not need to have every answer today. You do not need to fix everything overnight. God is not asking you to carry the entire weight of your future alone.

He is simply asking you to trust Him one step at a time. Live one day at a time by God's grace.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;" Proverbs 3:5, NKJV
